    plastic question

Hi I had just found out my yard buys the plastic of the back of old tv's but the women who told me was not sure what kind of plastic that is. I believe its ABS plastic but not sure. If any one could let me know that would be great. Thank you

The plastic on T.V.s is called ABS but it can also be #6 or #5. I've come across both but sell all my electronic plastic as Mixed Plastic for .10-.15 cents a pound.

Thanks. And its 5cents a pound. You can sell it in small amounts or large amounts. That's what I like, good to make a little more off those old tv's

You just inspired me to look harder for a plastic buyer. Havent found any around here. I have been giving my plastic to a plastic recycler that shreds and sells it, but he wont pay for ABS. The 45 min drive to be "green" is taxing, but I'm committed to it. Local town recycling center says they will take it and "throw it in the landfill"......

Found this thread on here. http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/non-m...e-plastic.html
I'm surprised that there's not more plastic recyclers in Atlanta.

Yes, I contacted them and they were nice, but basically want 10 ton+ loads before they will deal with me. There is also another company called East Meets West (dba of larger company I think). They do all kinds of plastic recycling, but wont pay for ABS. Thanks for looking around for me, though.

Actually the technical nameof ABS plastic is Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. Because of its durability it is used in Air-Soft Guns. If we compare it with general plastic it holds its shape when it is molded by heat, chemical resistant, and is not affected by temperature. There are so many products which has been made with the help of ABS Plastic Golf Club Heads, Car Wheel Covers, LEGO Blocks, Bicycle & Motorcycle Helmets, Water pipe (Plumbing) and Electrical Conduit, Bathroom Shower Doors, Volleyballs,Pool Liners, Toys,Furniture, Outdoor Playground Equipment, etc,

Also many electronics are made out of pc/abs. Then if you get really technical there are different FR ratings, such as FR 10,15,25.

It looks like every major city would have a plastic recycler

By me you can give it to the city in the recycling bins. Other places started buying water bottles and #2 plastic jugs so hopefully someone will start to buy ABS

Volleyballs are not made of ABS, they are made of vinyl or leather. Pool liners are typically made of vinyl. Most plumbing is PVC, not ABS.

Most of the stuff on his list are #2 plastics ( toys, etc). ABS is too brittle for most of those applications. Also, most of those items are blow molded, and I have never heard of blow molded ABS.
