Where can I find Catalyitic Converters?

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to say I'm looking forward to talking with you all about scrap as well as making new friends.

So here's my question: I'm an aspiring business man who's interested in the scrapping business. My local scrapyard offers a good price for catalyitic converters.

It would be very helpful if some of the members here could tell me all of the places that I can find them at.

    Thank you.

First - Learn to identify ALL the types very well. It's easy and common to lose your a-- buying catalytic converters. Second - Be prepared to pay high for them with very low profit margin. Everybody is buying catalytic converters which makes it very competitive. Throw in core buyers who travel all over the country offering more than you'd get at the scrap yard and there's not much left. I lost EVERY repair shop I had been buying cats to a core buyer that came up from Boston area (three hours away).
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

    Thank you.
The ones I get all seem to be located between the exhaust manifold and the muffler

Most times you will see/find an O2 Sensor just before and after

I'm looking to find a steady source, a type of company, any where that I can get cats from so I can collect a large load.

Like where can i call or go to, in order to get them?

Foreget it, find a new nich, like e-waste.Like mick said unless your scrapping cars the market is tied up with the core buyers. But if you want to try your luck go around to the auto repair shops and ask if you can buy thiere cats, good luck.

Do you have several pounds of hundred dollar bills?
That is what it will take to collect a large load

Sorry for the confusion. I believe i did make a post on here a long time ago, but I forgot about it. This time I'd like yo really be dedicated to this business more.

So yes, please excuse my ignorance on certain matters, I'm just trying to learn, like everyone else.

not just money a ton of knowledge on cats you can loose ton of money real quick.Cats all over the board in prices 30- 300 ish "these are rough estimates" but you got be able to to the difference from a big ford to big gm we use this as example big ford around 100 bucks in scrap ,a big gm 200-300 in scrap "again there rough estimates", or even bmw there cats are expensive but aftermarket are like 30 bucks . im just trying to explain what i know there so much difference in prices and you have to know every cat for every car or truck ,i have a buyer he told me in 20 years he been doing scrap he lost thousands till he learned to tell difference in between them..if you do just read till you comfortable buying them or you can break the bank fast...

Rick...Don't you think that if all scrappers knew where to get cats for cheap we would all be rolling in the $$$? Read the above post and take them to heart. Not only are cats hard to identify (can you instantly tell an aftermarket from an OEM?) the market is also over saturated with buyers. I buy and sell my yards cats and at least once a month someone comes along and offers me big numbers.

This gravy train has left the station. Find another niche and concentrate your efforts there.

Gus could write a book and charge for it. I believe he has done the most thorough research on cats than any person I have read on the net.

Hey guys, new to the forum. I scrapped alot years back but just stuck to scrap steel and copper... never did anything with cars. Once you get ahold of the cats where is the bast place to sell them? Are they something you can just take to a scrap yard or what?
