    Question Bath Tub.....Is this shred?

So I picked up my first bath tub. It's from a 1980's fox and jacob house is this steel? Is it to be put with shred or should I weigh in discard shred and then weigh again tub only? I just don't want to loose money by a stupid mistake.
    Thanks everyone

shred as long as it's not a cast iron tub.

So, cast iron isn't shred? That's what I've been doing with it. Am I making out or losing money here?

Alot of smaller yards have only one grade of scrap metal.....Shred or whatever they want to call it.....At bigger yards they may seperate cast iron from shred and pay a little extra........If that is the only thing you have it's not really woth fooling with (mabye a buck or two difference)

Thanks! If I start doing more pianos and tubs I'll check into it, otherwise shred.

My yard is only .02 more per lb but when you have a place to store some and you can take up 1,000 or so lbs it's more money then what you would've had.

Here, we have Light Iron and #1 Iron. Generally $80-$100 difference per ton.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Here it's basically 2 prices, short iron, or long iron/tin(both same price). I've been holding on to the shorter heavy stuff hoping to get a load, and maybe a chance to cut some of the longer heavy stuff down. Not sure I'll hang onto it that long, but still trying to, but like some say, it's really not a lot of difference, and maybe not even worth the hassle of cutting the long stuff down

My yard generally pays about $2/100lbs more than shred for all cast.

My yard has the normals..shred, alum, stainless, etc. For cast they call it pot metal...cast alum, cast steel..etc. They pay more for it then shred so I'm happy with it. Quite a bit more but not as much as George's yard.

Sirscrapalot - Has been spending to much time at the beach with company in town then working.

Cast is usually 30 ton higher at my yard so for sure worth sorting, don't like bath tubs though its a crappy light grade cast. Check with your yard is my advice

No, as long as there's no steel attachments it's all good.

I was dissapointed at my yard, had alot of cast(pipe, tub, even a cast coil). Found out the only thing they consider cast is man-hole covers and rotors/drums. I tell the guy, well why do you call it cast then? Just a shrugg..
They advertise cast iron but only accept those 2 things.
At least they paid oversize (10$ more a ton)

I use one of the bigest scrap metal companies in the country, They have 2 prices for steel, shred and cars. What diffrance does it make if a cast iron tub has metal attachments or not? I hit my thum with a hammer once and broke it and I don't think it's made of cast iron.I think I commented on three post at once.
