    Surprise Score (For me at least) With Pics

    So this is a score for me at least, but I got 8 UPS backups, 2 surge protectors, a bunch of incandescent lightbulbs (?), like 40 pounds of what I guess you would call server wire and coax cable mixed together and assorted #2, some Christmas lights, and some kind of radio receivers and a shredder. I managed to tear these down in about an hour and a half. All of this stuff got dropped off at my workshop for free and I'm planning on taking it to the yard for a payout of about $100. Not to bad for an hour and a half of work.
    Some pics:

    Box #1 included 4 UPS Backups, and a bunch of alkaline batteries (I tossed those in the shred.) The backup on the far left had a HUGE transformer in it, and it weighed a ton.

    Box #2 had 4 more UPS backups along with two power strips.

    A beat up Fellowes Shredder (Nice big motor on the inside)

    A large laundry basket full of mainly server cable (Blue and white cable) and some coax. When I saw the coax, I was kinda scared because it would have gone straight into the shred. I tested it and found out it is actually solid copper in the center, rather than copper clad steel. How much does this stuff go for? There's some #2 ICW in there too.

    And some police scanners.

    I also got a brand new Exit sign that will be going on the shop wall shortly. Here is the final weights and estimated payout:
    #2 ICW – 53 X .90 = 47.70
    Brass – 2 X 1.00 = 2.00
    Batteries – 41 X .25 = 10.25
    Shred – 75 X .07 = 5.25
    Solid Copper Coax – 4 X ? = ?
    LG – 5 X .10 = .50
    Electric Motors = 5 X .15 = .75
    Transformers – 41 X .20 = 8.20
    Cans = 10 X .55 = 5.50
    #2 Copper – 2 X 2.57 = 5.14
    Christmas Lights – 7 X .20 = 1.40
    Total = 90.69
    Not to bad in my opinion. Y'all have a nice night.

    The good thing is it's probably going down to the yard in a Prius because it will fit. Even less gas!

    Sounds like a plan, I've been watching gas prices start easing back up again. Luckily my little Mitsubishi truck doesn't burn much.

    Final Scale Ticket. They cheated me BAD on the shred price but I'm not to concerned about it. I also think my scale is off so there is a twenty pound difference in shred weights. Oh well. I still made out OK.

    This yard didn't want to buy my Coax even though it was the solid copper kind. I went to the yard down the street and sold 4 pounds of #3 ICW at fifty cents a pound. Not to bad.

    nice haul, I recently trash picked two ups's - from an office that had just bought "smart ups's"- one of them still worked just fine so I kept it for my storm back up.

    Love the free stuff, sounds like your name is getting out there. Wy are there three different prices for #2 insulated on your ticket, and you got.03 for shred?

    I was wondering the same thing. The first one was for what I believe was power cords and the gut wire from the inside of the UPS's. The second one was for CAT 5 cable, and I the third one was Christmas lights. The .03 a pound for shred blew me away. But it less than a hundred pounds so it didn't hurt me too bad.

    These had service tags on them that said that they either wouldn't power up or wouldn't hold a charge (Bad battery). I'm not into referbing these because I've heard that the batteries cost a lot and these were pretty beat up.

    I usually get .07 - .10, but this yard just offered crap for shred price and I usually haul shred when I have a trailer full of it. I just took in the shred I had to add a little to the ticket.

    ACS has a trade on program for used UPS`s. You send in a old one, and for a fee they send back a brand new one. For anyone looking to get a ups, a great deal. Might even be able to make a profit reselling the new one. Have not done this yet, but I plan on it.

    At .03 a pound, they raped you on shred. Luckily you didn't lose much, but personally I would never take shred there again!

    Yep, never using them again. I gave them one last chance and they failed. Yep, but the prices are always lower down here for some reason at both the yards I use. Not by much, but they are lower.
