Well looks like its time to get back to commercial fishing,I have cleaned up everything i had.gathering up a little bit at a time,but not enough keep the beans and taters coming in. So tomorrow got to put out some traps for baitfish,check about a dozen trotlines,replace hooks and droplines as needed,look the boat over, and get ready to fish. I'm ready last few days not much happening, rearranging furniture and cleaning up the man cave/tool room.But i'm ready to get out and do something,sitting around gets old in a hurry, i remember when i got laid off back in 2001,The first week or so was ok,after that it got boring in a hurry,and i want to get some fly tying done,fix up some bream killers for my dad.

Update, well got 16 perch traps out this afternoon, Had one unexspected guest me and pop were checking them out,repairing a few, i handed him one and he said look here.The trap i just handed him had about an 8 inch Copperhead inside done got in there couldnt get out.About that time on of the cats ran by pops leg, scared the bejezzers out of him, Said he thought the momma showed up LOL. The rest of the pile got a much better eye on them. So were planning on gathering bait Sunday morn and baiting lines That afternoon. I hope we dont waste our time, found out the Game and Fish been sampling for bass,with a electric shocker," Also known as Telephoning"That will run everything off for a few weeks. and they covered most of the area we like to fish, so it could be hit or miss.

Ark you are living one of my bucket list "to do" items. Always wanted to go out with a com.fisherman. Have talked with a few but non were interested.

I fished here in N.C. inshore and offshore as well. I enjoyed the solitude and felt I needed the alone time after 20 years in the Marine Corps. Like most things it takes a lot of work to make a living. As a bonus you get to smell like long dead fish when you get home. Mike.

Yeah,me and my dad been doing this long as i remember, Pop been at it since he was young.My response when asked about the scent is " It smells like money" Their used to be two fish markets here in town,changes in railroad regulations about shipping fish ,ended up shutting them down, Theirs still a lot of guys who fish full time or part time.

Well ran the perch traps had couple hundred nice perch.Heading out tomorrow with some hoop nets and some trotlines.

Interesting. What kind of weight does that haul of perch represent? How do you sell the fish if there are no fish markets any more? Just take them to a processor somewhere?

The perch are just for bait, to catch the catfish on trotlines, Na most of the guys just sell out of their shed,or door to door, a few guys have some connections up state they sell to,cafe's and fishmarkets. and theres a few guys fish commercial,dont even sell,they just do it because theirs no limit on commercial fish,that way they have plenty for them and thier family to eat on,Most of those guys just fish a few weeks a year,fill up the freeezer and there for the most part done.We got nine lines out this evening, heading out at sunrise to check the results.
