Great week at the metal dumpster

Like I said in my introduction I have permission at work to take any metal I want from the scrap metal dumpster. This week was great 3,500 lbs. of prime steel, probably about 80 lbs. of aluminum, brass another clean 120 lbs. bunch of brake rotors,2 microwaves, a lawn mower and about ten lbs. of #2 copper.. Best estimate is around $700 to $750 not bad for reaching in a dumpster and dropping it in my truck. Total time invested without the drop off about 40 minutes. Plus I get to go back tomorrow.

Old guy suggestion use it to pay off outstanding debts. Being debt free is a really great way to relax your brain. Mike.

That's cool. Looking to get into it in the spring if I can get a truck. Hope to make some money to do some upgrades on my Quad. Did some scrapping off and on but have always been into grabbing throw away stuff I could use for myself or sell.

Hmm...I find it funny that they gave you permission to take metal from the scrap dumpster. Around here if you get a dumpster for scrap, you have to pay a small fee for having the dumpster. Just don't see why they would have the dumpster and let people take from it when they may have to pay a fee for it. Don't get me wrong, great thing for you just seems a bit strange to me. Wish I had a place around here that would have that.

They don't pay anything for the dumpster and this is why they don't care who rummages through it. And nobody does but me. Also I have no dept. My house has been payed for for years and I don't have a credit card. I payed cash for my truck in 2011.

Good on you for being debt free. You may want to keep your success to yourself around work. Mike.

I would keep that score to yourself. People get jealous / want in on it. Usually ends up that no one gets it once the boss finds out

Most ppl are to lazy to do any scrapping where I work. Even to the point of just reaching into a dumpster. As for being dept free yes I am BUT there is a reason why. I was 20 years old (37 years ago) and got into a position where I had to borrow $1000.00 from my mother and I was super embarrassed about having to do this. I put a sheet of paper on our fridge to show myself how much I was paying it down every week and also worked in a gas station to speed things up. I never borrowed a penny after that except for my mortgage which I also payed off ten years early. I payed cash for my new 2011 4x4 truck too. Scrapping to me is just pure fun. Today I picked up 200 lbs. of steel and another 60 lbs. of brass. Fantastic week.
