Please dont make the same mistake, vintage computer

Today after i got home from school i decided to tare down this ancient looking hard drive i got from a pickup a while back. I went online and found out just the hard drive can sell for up to 700 dollars!! At this point I had already taken off one of the cast aluminum covers and made a small scratch on one of the discs. I know i got the computer for free but this could have turned into one of my best single scores yet! The hard drive is called a MiniScribe model 6085. I assuming people only buy these things if they are functioning. Anyone else on here have experience with selling vintage computer parts?

Just because someone is trying to sell one for that doesn't mean it has sold for that much. The one I found on Ebay sold for about $35 shipped which is still better then scrap.

Yes, the asking price means nothing. You have to look at completed sales to get an idea of the true value of an item.

Anytime I find something that is a little different that usual, I take the time to check it out before scrapping it. Live and learn. If you find another one, you will play it differently.
