Just saw another Scrapper getting Pinched on my way to the yard!

Ok, this is not an "I told ya so" thread in any way, shape or form. But it is a great reminder to anyone out there who thinks making a quick buck by being dishonest and stealing their scrap is a better alternative to doing it the correct, honest, and legit way.

I'm on my way to the yard this morning, on my way I see someone pulled over, as I approach I see it is a scrapper with a truck and utility trailer attached. The truck bed is loaded with scrap, the trailer has on it a washer, a dryer and looks like boxes of older electronics- maybe microwaves and other things. As we drive by there are two city police officers, driver is still in the truck, the police are out of their cars combing the trailer, cameras out- taking pictures of everything.

We continue on our way and do our drop-off, on the way back, a county sheriff has now pulled up and are having discussions with the city officers as well as I see a lot of pointing to things on the trailer. On our way back the scrapper (still in the truck) has his arm behind his head with the "This isn't going to end well for me" look on his face.

So in a nutshell- if ya don't run clean.. the cops will catch you!

    *End Public service announcement!*
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

No question on that (running clean), but .... there could be any number of reasons for the stop. Could have been a slow day for the boys in blue (or brown, khaki, whatever) and they needed some entertainment. It is not unheard of. Also, the guy in the truck might have been on their radar for another reason altogether and maybe a load of scrap could have concealed a load of another kind.

That said, not arguing with you - karma and kops: a bad kombination (if you are on the wrong side of karma).....

Oh you are correct.. It could have been a myriad of things.. He looked loaded up on scrap and was on the only road into the yard.. so it is an assumption for certain. Either way.. scrap or non-scrap.. It seems to me that the only reason they would take pictures of whatever you are carrying.. can't be good for you if you are the driver

Gives a whole new meaning to some old CB lingo "Kojak with a Kodak" or just another way to know it's "not going to be a good day"

I thought we were going to get a pic of a scrapper actually being pinched.

Being pinched can hurt ya know!

A lot of the cops around here know me so it isn't odd for me to get a phone call when things get stolen. Not to see if I stole it but to ask me to keep my eyes open.

I got a call from a detective one day who said he had my name on a warrant for buying stolen AC units. I told him that I don't buy AC units. He said he knew that but since my name was on the paper he had to contact me. It turns out that it was another scrapper that I knew. I got his number and sent it on to my detective buddy. HE had not only stolen them but had sold them to a local yard that bought them without the proper paperwork. HE went to jail and the yard got a huge fine.

Do things clean and it is a lot easier to sleep at night.
