Pricing changes and the affect on what you pay for towers...

Oh, back to the topic. When gold dropped back some months ago, I dropped my prices from $5 to $4 per complete tower and never turned back. In my opinion, you have someone willing to sell their tower for scrap price, or they want a whole bunch more for their working computer. If you have that scrap person on the line, that $1 will NOT make a difference, but it may to you if it is a newer computer with garbage in it.



In my opinion, the dollars paid for e-waste are just a token. The people that want their e-waste recycled properly and know that their computer is a hunk of crap will take just a dollar or two for it and be happy that it is being recycled properly. I get calls all the time saying things like "I have a laptop. It works but runs slow". I tell them my schpeal and the that I pay $1 for a BROKEN laptop for RECYCLING, and they swear at me and hang up.

I really need to remove the info from my Craig'slist add that I buy laptops, because that is probably 50% of my calls. That way I can at least tell the guy that has one laptop that I don't buy laptops. Probably won't matter as the people do not read the add. I state more than once in the add that I am looking for as stated above, broken, not working, out of date for recycling. I still get he calls from peeps that want premium money for their junk. It sucks, but those good calls do still come through and I have to put up with all of them.

Exactly and if they do know its going for scrap and want more. Thanks to this forum you can explain to them what qualifies for your high pricing categories.

Example: I buy mobos at $2.25-$3.25 the sliding scale allows me grading room depending on year and if the board has been cleaned already.

Computers: I go by year. 1998 onwards-$2-$3
1990-1998 $3-$4
1980-1990 $4
1962-1979 $5-$6

I took computer programmimg in 1973 at a local area VO-Tech school. We used key punch and the "computer" wrapped around the perimeter of the room was about 40ft long. If you can get one of those for $5-6 that may be a heckuva deal. Of course then there's the transportation cost..... I remember loading cards in the computer just before class ended. The next class would come in and the poor guy who was first to use the computer would get a printout similar to this "Your program is #*%^ed!! I refuse to print your input data...."
