Maybe be a dumb question but if they were lead wouldnt they be on the heavy size in relation to their size?.if they didn't dent after hitting with a hammer I tend to think they would be stainless steel. Lead will mush up like bear said. Like when you use split shot fishing, the lead shot can be closed with a pair of pliers or even between your teeth.
