Does anybody use one or can you recommend one? We're thinking about buying a wire stripper but don't know where to start. Thanks

I've been too busy stipping wire to post lately. I do stop by and read though (thanks Mick!)
We got really lucky and just found a scrap guy who will come out to our house and pick up the scrap. Like that isn't wonderful enough, he paid us $3.20 for bare bright! Amazing!
Sorry I missed it! Happy belated birthday :)
My husband jokes all the time about what a great stripper I am (pun intended) - lol ;)
You're very welcome!
Here's a thread I started with some other places/prices too - http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/showthread.php/643-Some-scrap-metal-price-links
Does this happen to you too? You're stripping wire for so long that your hand doesn't want to open when you're done? We call it strippers claw - lol
I guess that's not such a bad thing. It...
That kills me when people do that. I want to yell at them, "Do you know how much money you're losing that way?!?!
Very good advice!
I read that tin doesn't give off sparks when grinding and steel does. I guess using a grinding wheel would be the best way to check.
Feel free to add to this if you know of any other sites
This has quite a bit of info - http://www.arcraftplasma.com/welding/weldingdata/metalchar.htm

Two weeks ago (our last load of copper) was $3.00 - hopefully it goes up with our next delivery.
Here are a couple of web sites showing scrap prices. Feel free to add your own link if you have one.

I"m confused, is that price a typo? Tin is going for $12.0656 per pound on the LME. It's one of the highest paying metals right now.
Very nice! I'm hoping to find some tin myself since the prices are good now. How much are they paying per lb in your area? And if you don't mind my asking, where do you find tin?
Thank you for the info.
I have some cabinet knobs that are a mix of nickel and sterling. How do you recycle something like that with mixed metals? Do they give you the lower of the two prices? Or would they not even take...
Here in NJ, right now the big bucks are in -
Carbide $3.50 lb
Nickel $5.00 lb
CPU processors $5.00 lb
I don't know what the price of tin is here but it's $11.80 on the LME (that would...
Wow - that's a real good price. If you find out how to tell the difference, I'd love to know. I plan on keeping anything that isn't magnetic and letting the yard identify what's what. But it's...
I wouldn't have touched that one. If it doesn't feel "right", it's better to err on the side of caution.
It sounds like tennant/landlord dispute that could have gotten you into trouble.
Does anyone know how to tell the difference between steel and tin? The only thing I read is that tin doesn't rust and that tin bars make a cracking sound when bent. Is there any other easy way to...
I agree, metal prices are volitile (daily) with the stock market. Things do look good for copper in the long term. According to Bloomberg again -
"Copper may resume its rally and break the...
I just wanted to say that I contacted the yard that buys bits. They told me they'd take any drill bits that a magnet doesn't stick to and they'd sort them out for me.
Metals do seem to be climbing now. Yesterday's Bllomberg report -
"Tin reached a record."
"copper gained 1 percent"
"Aluminum gained 0.4 percent"
"nickel rose 1.5"
"zinc climbed 1.2 percent"...
This might help you since you're in Maryland. They update their prices daily.
This place is in NJ, which is where we live, but it's a little far from us so we don't go there. They are paying a...
