Sounds like we're doing the same things!
I de-populate the boards of most everything and my local metal recycler will give me scrap steel price for them.
Yes, I also noticed the same in the relays....
It could well be gold, BUT the coating is so thin (the coating process is called sputtering), it would take hundreds of boards to make up a gram
