Took in all my bulky steel yesterday, dad wanted it off the side of the house. Remnants of a hot water heater, back of a plasma TV, remains of a vaccum cleaner I took the motor out of (old Hoover, I...
Those stacks of PC towers, I always think they look like weird skyscrapers.
I believe that melting US silver coinage is fine, you just cannot melt (non-silver) nickels or pennies.

Yeah never intended to ship junk boards, I think I'll just be taking those to this yard to get something for them.
Yeah, I was figuring that it'd become primarily a yard to dump my low grade brown boards. The e-waste prices seemed low compared to threads I saw in the buyers/sellers section here, but those...
Emailed a local yard I don't usually go to, cause they seemed to have more of an eWaste tilt and listed that they paid for a variety of different things, CD/DVD boards, full power supply boxes, etc....
Was just quoted $0.38/pound by a local yard. Got $0.45/lb back in October at my main yard.
Heh, being closer to the water is pretty nice. Curbco seems a bit thin here but that's proably because I'm not looking hard enough.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I tried and most of the legs stayed on the board so I gave up after a few. As for RLS' comment, I assumed we were talking about the standard dark blue & grey electrolytic ones that are all...
Sounds like a decent bit of work, but with a value of $57k I think a little work is warranted. Would be a shame to turn it down just cause it'd be a little trouble.
Glad it worked out, I would imagine that's fairly light steel though, but I guess with the sheer volume there's no fear of coming up with nothing for a lot of work.
Welcome. Im not too far from where you are, off in the Suburbia land of Brevard County. I imagine things are a bit more fruitful for you out in Orlando
If you were really bored and had a lot of time to kill you could collect a ton of em and pull out all the little metal strips. Maybe I'll do that when I get home, nothing better to do at the moment.
Will throw up some pictures when I get home, still got the gazebo steel sitting there, only new additions have been the house's old VHS player that finally died and a pair of fluorescent light...
Man has it really been over a year since I've touched this thread? Really am reviving a dead one now. Not too much has been happening, just same old same old. Lots of cans. One of the neighbors has...
I don't really have the means to cut off copper windings, and I'll most likely knock the shell off and add it in as motors. I was just being a bit silly.
I'm looking to purchase I guess a respirator soon, because while I don't break down anything too toxic yet, I feel like it's a good investment for when I start cutting into stuff or tearing out...
A decent bit's been happening for me, found a lawn mower, even came with the manuals! (They were taped to it in a plastic folder along with the "FREE" sign). It doesn't start (pulling the cord...
Sorry to revive an old thread but I'd rather not start a new one. Not too much has been happening, went on vacation for a bit. Scrapped 3 vacuum cleaners (well, one was some steam vac thing), motors...
Unfortunately, one of the other yards near me was closed today (Closed on a Saturday? And according to the google reviews it says "Closed Saturdays-Pick another day") and has reviews that are either...
Swore there was a centralized thread for this, but anyways
Ballasts - 0.10/lb
Dirty Insulated - 0.10/lb
"Clean" Scrap Iron (This included 3 bikes w/tires and the guts of a shredder but okay...)...
Scrapped one of those recently, pulled a similar speaker out of it. I just took a hammer to it to get into it though, avoiding the CRT of course.
Definitely try and sell as much of this as you can. Would be a shame to see it all melted down for scrap!
