I work in a pretty rough hood of Chicago, and catalytic converter thefts of church vans, mini buses from charity organizations us a fairly common thing.

my main yard is about 1 mile from me and on the same street I do alot of shopping and errands, so I took some steel barrels and other misc steel with a few samples of wire to see what prices are.

He quoted me 40 cents/pound for it

What classification does stripped aluminum wire go in? There is no steel wire in the middle

just called our big scrap yard here in western chicago and they said 150-180 for a gross ton
