Still getting .08/lb here going on 2 years and I can strip them down to glass and plastic case if I want.
I easily make as much money from selling old or desirable items as scrap. Wheelchair $5 scrap easy $50 used. Golf bag $0 scrap $20-$100 used.

It sounds like he wanted to see if it was worth his time/effort, plus if you are willing to buy them at that price then he has to assume he can make more somewhere else because you were going to.
