Where can I get a Gaylord Box?

I am having a heck of a time a single gaylord to purchase for shipping a stack of mobos. Where do you guys get them? I am in Albuquerque NM if anyone knows a supplier around here.

You can find half height ones at grocery stores. I've gotten some from cardboard recyclers. Also, there is a used box distributor in town that I have purchased them from. If it's just one pallet for shipping, I use medium boxes from home depot and stack them 4 high using straps and stretch wrap.

FYI, the ones from grocery stores suck because they are usually not triple walled like the heavy duty ones. If you have a good relationship with your local scrap yard they should be willing to sell you one. I usually pay 6-7.00 each. You will get them cheaper if you buy in bulk.

If you have several different items you are trying to ship, it is easier to put them in boxes and stack them on a pallet. You can get stretch wrap from Home Depot.

They fit 4 per level so 16 total. You could go higher, but i'm comfortable with that height. I use straps because I've had a couple pallets fall apart with just the stretch wrap. If you have a packing supply store (not fedex or staples), they might have some strapping there. I got a huge spool with clips for about $20. This is strapping you do by hand, not with a device or machine.

I also put the heavy duty medium boxes on the bottom layer...just in case the load on top is too much for them. Remember to keep the heaviest boxes on the bottom and build your way up to the lightest on top.

if you get them from the produce department, they should be double or triple wall. I remember trying to cut and fold them to get them in to the baler

I was going to suggest the grocery store also. The store closest to me will be getting about 4 or 5 gaylords of pumpkins in soon.

Just to add to the conversation here ... if you don't intend to ship very often, I have used this inexpensive strapping kit with good results.
    https://www.amazon.com/Duck-Brand-St...=strapping+kit

I will say that I used stretch wrap first to tie all the boxes together. Then strapping is just a bit of added insurance.

Chec k with your local paper/cardboard recycler. They usually provide them for you. They will charge you, but they generally have as many as you need.

We bought a bundle of S-4479 boxes from Uline.com for $25 each including shipping. One $25 box is two pallet size halves, no cutting involved. They are lightweight and the sides will bulge with barely any weight on them. They are quick to throw together or fold up for later and work for some stuff though.

Where can I get a Gaylord Box?

Walmart has given me some whenever I nicely ask them. I usually get the ones that watermelons or pumpkins come in. I have a business relationship with all the stores in my area, so that helps.

A little late to the party but, I used to work for a plastic injection molding company. The majority of base plastics come in heavy duty full-sized gaylords, which we would break down and throw them on our recycle trailer. I've personally sold gaylords to people off the street (with permission). It was about 4 years ago but I believe it was $10/ea. You can probably get some used gaylord liners as we would recycle them as well. The nice thing is that plastic gaylords are almost always oil/moisture free. Just thought I would throw that out there if anyone is struggling to find any.

late as well, but ditto what Sodella said. I worked in plastic injection for a while, we were always getting rid of empty gaylords. most went into recycle but $5 or so you could have as many as you want with lids...so if you have any molders around, that's what resin comes in. the other place to check is wherever your local corrugated supplier is. most cities have one or two around (because it's very competitive and expensive to ship). hit up your local carton company and they will sell them, just tell them you need them for recycling...last corrugate plant I toured they were coming up with corrugated caskets for low cost body transport as well as corrugated assemble yourself furniture, though the latter was more of a sales demo than actual product.
