If you want mercury old AC stats would be the way to go.

interesting point to consider... i have been avoiding mercury for a while because of its possible hazmat complications... i might be trying to salvage it from now on. good topic

I save it. Not sure what it may be worth in the future. I have a little can in the garge labeled "mercury" with a couple of old thermostats in it.

Actually....... in lcd tv's and in lcd monitors there is a cathode ray tube(believe it or not... it's there!) that contains mercury. They are very easy to break so be careful! they look like miniature fluorescent lights.

And none of those bulbs are made in the USA. Because of EPA standards, but I guess it is honky dorey to buy them from overseas.

anyone scrapped out an led backlit monitor/tv yet? just curious as to whats in them, ive scrapped out 100+ lcds's
whoever said theres cathode ray tubes in lcds is wrong, those are florescent bulbs and they do contain mercury, i dont think those tiny little flourcent tubes have nearly as much mercury in them as a cfl lightbulb though, somthing tells me the amount of mercury in a flourcent tube is proportional to the size of the tube, and we all know that there are tons of cfl bulbs / industrial 4ft and 8ft tubes being landfilled each year, i remember back in the 80's as a kid we took the burnt 4ft and 8ft tubes and smashed them for fun theres no way id do that now knowing what i know, i take all of mine and drop them off at the local hardware store for proper disposal

I said that and I am not wrong. I took two apart last week and they both had a sticker on them that said this: caution: cathode ray tube containing mercury... and it looked like fluorescent bulbs to me!.......... I saw it and had to do a double take because all the others say fluorescent. Another interesting thing about those cfls.... the EPA states that mercury is a hazardous waste but when you ask any federal environmental governing agency what to do with them their answer is usually throw them away!! The state of Indiana bought one of those bulb crushing machines and were crushing those bulbs..... because thats what the EPA recommended.... then IDEM went in there and did a mercury test to prove to them they should not do it and the mercury test showed that it looked like they were splattering mercury all over the room. They had to do blood testing and continue to have to do mercury poisoning monitoring on all the employees involved.

Those "Bulb Crushing Machines" you are talking about have a filter to catch the mercury.

a cathode ray tube has an electron ray gun as the emitter, you are 100% wrong abut there being crt's in lcd monitors, you need to do some research there bud

Not all bulb crushing machines are for cfl recycling. Most states say you must now use machines that capture the mercury and Indiana's law was because of the above incident.

yea hypo no problem, i scrap out so many monitors and tvs i get confused also
