    Aluminum wire question

I was stripping aluminum wire some would bend easily and some would not do they make different kinds of aluminum wire? I like to wrap the aluminum around to take up less space some wraps around really easily some does not like its really hard and no steel in it just doesn't want to wrap around in a coil easily. I ended up with 182lbs ec wire not done still got 50 5ft lengths of 4/0 aluminum and 3 60ft lengths that came in a 60ft aluminum conduit. Should be fun to run 60ft lengths through the stripper yay.

Yes actually, some aluminum wire is not the 99% aluminum 1000 series wire but the much stiffer 8xxx alloys, some with trade names, none of which I can recall at the moment, made to replace those with steel. The scrapyards don't seam to care however and just take it all as aluminum wire.

Yup as long as it's not magnetic they put it as ec otherwise it's acsr.

ACSR isn't magnetic per se, it's that it has a steel core (the SR is 'steel reinforced'). The outer part of it is the same nonmagnetic EC wire as insulated aluminum and ACSR recovers only a little less on average than insulated Al

I just run it through the stripper fun fun. I should have 70 more pounds of ec wire when I get it. To go with my 183 lbs I already have haha. We had a big box of aluminum wire collected over 5 years before I worked there. When people lease the office trailers they leave the wires in the pipe that goes from the power box to the power pole so I get the aluminum wire and copper wire but it's kinda rare lately biggest wire I ever see is 4/0 I'm assuming I won't see mcm is that what they use in power lines?.
