My tip of the day. Keep your eyes open and always ask.

Last Friday my wife wanted me to bring home some sushi. I was up in Oregon, a 30 minute drive from my home in northern CA. I had already called in the order and as I was walking up to the restaurant I saw a bunch of guys on ladders working on the roof. I also say a pile of copper on the ground. I ask the boss man (I knew he was the boss, everyone else was working) what he was going to do with the trimmings from the roof. He said trash it so I asked if I could have it. No problem, he said there would be more later in the day but I did not want to make another trip north so I picked up all the scrap. It was heavy and I was thinking a couple of pounds. NOPE, six pounds exactly. I might try selling on feeBay to a jewelry maker or ?? for crafts.

There were four guys there. I figured at least one of them saved copper. When I told the boss I was a "scrapper" he did not understand. I just told him I keep copper.

Good job. I had a similar story with aluminum siding instead of copper. Last summer, I was driving to a nearby smaller town and I saw a pile of steel roadside near a driveway. I stopped by and asked if I can pick it up. No problem. Do you have aluminum or copper as well? Yeah, we're currently removing the siding on the back of the house, because we're adding a new patio and we have no use for that aluminum. I came home with 50 pounds of scrap aluminum siding not visible from the street.
