Usb cords with ends are basically the lowest grade wire u can sell around here....you might get a slight bump if you cut the ends off

I have not figured out yet what my yard grades them as.... But i do have a ton of them.... I am 99% sure I could throw them in with my yards 'insulated wire' category.... Which is $0.40/lb at my yard... Currently all cut power cords and computer powersupply cords (all with connector ends and plugs all go into this category and get me $0.40/lb)
We buy them with ends as #2 35% and without as #2 40%.
See if your yard has a "harness wire" category. PSU pigtails with the ends on are like 48-49% recovery. You should be getting a bit more for those than your low grade wire.Originally Posted by kss

I have checked with my one yard, they literally only have 1 category.... "Insulated Copper Wire" and it has been at $0.40/lb for almost a year now. The other yard close to me has at least a couple more categories (christmas light which is very low paying, romex which is much higher paying, and then insulated copper wire, which is pretty much everything else.....)

The yards i go to grade USB cords as low grade. You can see that there's just a scant of copper in there if you strip one out.
The way it was explained to me:
High grade wire is wire you find " in the wall ". That's stuff like Romex and spaghetti wire. Heavy copper cable that brings power to the house falls into that category as well. It normally carries 110 -or- 220 volts.
Mid grade wire is stuff that " plugs into the wall ". It normally carries 110 volts. Power supply wire passes for mid grade as well.
Low grade wire is stuff that has fine " hair wire " in it. Just a few fine strands of copper that are used for carrying low voltage.

As JJ has kindly taught us : It's all based on how much copper can be recovered from a pound of wire.
My electric wire stripping machine came in the other day. I'll try to develop some averages and post back on recovery rates over time. Right now i'm just running spaghetti wire.

Did you ever teach Piano in the late 1970's in the Denver metro area? I've heard others say "Every Good Boy Does Fine" but the only other person I have ever heard say that - "deserves fudge" was my piano teacher... way back when.Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge ... oh ... wait ... wrong thread. Back in music class in the late 80s they taught us that. Also.... All Cars Eat Gas...Did you ever teach Piano in the late 1970's in the Denver metro area? I've heard others say "Every Good Boy Does Fine" but the only other person I have ever heard say that - "deserves fudge" was my piano teacher... way back when.

Lol ... as Mike pointed out in another thread : Mostly old guys here.
Deserves fudge was taught to me back in elementary school music class.
< facepalm > That would have been sometime back in the late 1960's. Dam* ... i'm gettin' old. It's a miracle i can even remember back that far. (Can't even remember what i had for breakfast.)

KSS - same here in CT -I just checked the yard on Monday and it was .40 a pound for 'insulated copper wire' with ends off .

I keep all the end/plugs on mine and get $0.40..... Never get hassled about it.
