The cards that stand out are simple with business and contact information. Details can be distributed through other channels. I would not even have information about using a dolly. This would only limit your opportunities and it is best not to advertise your limitations. You could hit a major score and let the scrap yard provide transportation after you prepare it.
Give back more to this world than we take.

In this case it may be in his best interest to mention the dolly and limited transportation. Start small and work your way up to a bike with a cart then a car or truck. I believe from past posts he has a bit of competition from others with trucks and trailers so he may stand out as doing this by hand truck. like the kids who cut lawns (do they still do this? LOL).

Mike1 all I can say is to make sure you show up, look professional and work hard. If you drop the ball all your competitors are waiting, don't make yourself look bad!

I can't remember the last time I saw a kid cutting grass. I started cutting grass in my neighborhood with my Dad when I was 7 and continued till I was 18. I made some good money.

One of the guys I ran with back in school started cutting lawns around the neighborhood in the summers.

He kept at it & now his name's on the side of the trucks for the largest landscaping service in town, he's worth 7 figures, and still, every Friday afternoon he gets in one of those trucks & goes & mows Mrs Johnson's yard for five bucks & a glass of lemonade, like he's done every Friday afternoon since 1982.

indeed and when i start getting calls i will say what i get. the best kind of things are the things you get often. i dont see it as a limitation i see it as exercise and saving money not using gas=) untill it goes to the yard that is lol. only have to pay for a trip there.

I agree with Patriot76. I have personally done huge scrap metal jobs I really had no business doing. But I didn't paint myself into a corner and I hustled to make them happen. I don't advertise that I only have a small Toyota truck and small trailer. I advertise "No job too big or too small".

Start talking to regulars at the scrap yard who have trucks. Get their numbers and offer some kind of profit share if they do hauling for you when you land a bigger job. Ask the scrap yard if they provide roll off dumpsters.

I appreciate anyone trying to grow their business. I just think you are limiting yourself.

Back in February I did a job where I made $12k. I could have easily done that job with nothing. Not even a dolly. I used the scrap yard to pick things up with their semi trailers. I did haul in the smaller stuff myself but looking back it would have been easier if I had just had them drop off a couple roll off dumpsters so I didn't have to make so many trips to the yard with my truck.

There are some great lessons to be learned from the responses provided. After reading the thoughts of others, my perspective was based on a fear that boundaries will limit growth.

Mike1 has created a great niche with his cart and given his situation it makes perfect sense which Hobo saw right away. In urban areas, the "local scrapper" might be a down to earth story similar to Auminer's reflection. 520 provides insight into the journey one might expect if they remain open minded. I hope you can become the local rags to riches story and your dolly becomes a badge of honor and logo on a fleet of trucks in the future. Good luck.

I actually just made business cards of my own from VistaPrint. I simply advertise as free computer/electronics pickup and recycling. I've gotten many calls since I started my micro-business. Always getting new material. I dumpster dive at the local thrift stores, pick up from a thrift store owned by a family friend, and give out cards to companies who come out to do repair work at our house. I pick up from my high school, and a couple other places. I'm obviously not getting rich anytime soon, but it pays my bills and gives me a fair bit of spending money for personal pleasure, obtaining new and improved tools and equipment, and money for growing the business. I use Google Adwords to advertise my website online. Costs money, but it brings in jobs. Then I use Google's advertising monetization to make money from ads on my website, and soon YouTube videos when I develop my channel.
