How to Tell When Someone Died

I'm sure there will be exceptions, but one of the ways I feel that I can tell (while scrapping) that I am at a house where someone died is this- there will be lots of photos (maybe yearbooks too) sitting with all the rubbish by the curb. There will often be lots of stuff- all kinds of stuff (clothing, tools, cookware, furniture, etc.). If there is enough variety where a young person says, "Hey, I could furnish my own place with all this stuff", then perhaps someone passed away recently.

Another sign is that the house is for sale.

Also, think about when you have two people who live together and one is really neat and the other is, let's just say, a hoarder (to put it mildly). Think Felix Unger and Oscar Madison for those who are old enough to remember The Odd Couple. If the hoarder passes first (doesn't matter if it is the husband or wife), then there is a good chance that there will be a lot of stuff sitting by the curb.

I suppose there might be times when a messy divorce results in lots of scrap sitting by the curb.

Ditto for a father or mother who isn't well liked by other family members. Nobody wants to save that old vase that reminds them of their crabby mother.

I hope I haven't offended anyone with what might sound like a somewhat harsh posting. As my old boss used to say, "It is just business."

They'll need a dozen 40 yard roll offs when I kick the bucket.
