    Not always worth stripping

I picked up some large fridge motors today and decided to strip one to see how much was inside. If sold as a fridge motor $32 (71 kg) if sold as electric motor (49 kg) and heavy steel (27 kg) $34.85 and completely stripped (3 kg) copper and (68 kg) steel $39.20. If you take into account the 6 cutting discs I used I am worse off. I will sell the rest as fridge motors.

yes- but sometimes we can only tell if its worth it AFTER cutting/stripping the item apart.

You also have to take into account the time spent. I take the easy money and let the yard work the harder stuff. That is time I can get more and work on the easier, higher paying items.

    71 Kgs a HUGE fridge motor…!

    Normally they are 11Kgs, 10 Kg Steel & 1Kg Copper = NZ$7.50
    @ NZ$ 0.33/Kg for motors. NZ$3.60

Any fridge compressor larger than the normal household fridge unit I sell at NZ$0.33 a Kg as 'Fridge compressors)
I just checked the current price, they used to be NZ$0.28/Kg...

They weight too much..There's not much more Copper in them anyway. It often takes much more to get them apart.
They are not consistent. I don't get many of them. They often turn out to have Aluminium windings, or a mix of Ali/Copper...

And, out of the pistons/tubing/springs/brackets & bolts. I can make a model of one of these.....
