I was looking at current prices of oddball scrap metals this morning, and was surprised at the price of real tin.
Currently real tin is sitting at $7.80 /lb wholesale.
Also of note: nickle is up to $4.20 /lb wholesale.

Sn ( tin ) is a weird metal that cries when you bend it.
Not sure what your interest is in Sn, but I've been looking to purchase a power supply that will allow me to recover Sn from the solder used on circuit boards.
Tin chloride is easy to return back into elemental Sn via electrolysis.

nickel and tin being high is a GOOD INDICATOR of both consumer electronics futures but also construction and heavy industry. Another indicator is carbide climbing up (which it is)

Alloy, how many kw/hours do you think it takes to pull a lb off solder and board substrates? I've looked at the process in the past but I just couldn't figure that much power for the returns, of course tin was about 2 bucks at the time.

KW hours probably cost more than i would make from the recovered Sn, other factors that may discourage me from attempting this project is that both copper and nickel used on the boards would also become chlorides - not sure how one could selectively separate each as a refined metal.Originally Posted by armygreywolf

I might try a small scale and use a watt meter...7 per lb is awfully hard to ignore.
