CashFor/4ComputerScrapUSA is a sideline/front for CJ Environmental, a refiner in MA. They aren't exactly racking up the positive reviews from customers or the BBB. I haven't dealt with them for precisely that reason but maybe that's just ancient history. Ewasted, one of the forum buyers, has nothing but positive reviews and I (and many other forum folks) can speak to their quality of service and pricing.

Also, unless you think you have months of free time ahead of you for d-man and eBay postings, unloading them all as a freight lot is probably your best shot to recoup cash. You could be sitting on 1200 eaches of carefully extracted parts for quite a while if you want to sell that way. That's a bit too long-tail for my tastes. Or, you could go halfway; pull boards and drives to sell in bulk and then move the rest as scrap ABS and steel.

I think your first step is a decisive and realistic assessment of your ability to commit any and how much time to this massive intake. From there, start talking to the buyers who can best facilitate.

I think you are referring to Cash for Electronic Scrap not Cash for Computer Scrap!

I'm a bit confused.
Why would someone buy 1200 of anything that their was no plan to process?
You have $ there for certain.. but why on earth would you purchase something you don't have any idea what to do with it?

It would be like someone offering me 1200 cats. The meow meow variety not converters for $12 bucks. What would I do with 1200 cats? No idea.. sort of need to think about the "long game" a bit!

My second question or head scratcher is:
Is this grouping of pictures where they sit or have they been moved to your facility?
If you have the truck large enough to have moved all of this, Fork Lift (And you must because they are stacked 3 high in some places) and warehouse or storage unit to place this stuff in.. I'm figuring you buy and sell a lot of different items on a regular basis.

If you happen to have lucked out and bought these for a song.. BUT you have all of these other factors of experience behind you- I'm doubting this will be a hard puzzle to solve.

Yeah him me up and we can talk...either phone, skype or similar. The more pics you have the better and any inventory would help too.

Breakage -

pulling cpu, ram and hard drive is standard course for IT departments with end of life items...they just don't care about the rest since it isn't their job,. The business has already written the entire thing off so any recovered money form auctions are just extra income. Once they declared something end of life (EOF), they move on. I used to get pallets of servers from my hospital contract...had everything except hard drives and ram...even the XENON cpus were there.

as others have advised you,strip all the computers & laptops
as far as scrap value goes, the RAM & CPUs are worth the most
then the boards.

then open up the power supplies and clip off all the wires- thats a seperate price
remove the copper & aluminium heatsinks inside the power supplies

lastly, u have to strip the all the copper from the heatsinks & keep that seperate.
the remaining aluminium has to be seperated also.

the empty cases go as shred.

the boards, CPUs & RAM must be sold to your ewaste buyer
( the ones on this forum are among the best).

the wires, copper, aluminium & empty cases should be sold to a scrap metal yard near you.
u should weigh all the different stuff u have so u know the weight & ask around to see which yard offers the best prices.

of course, if any of these systems are working, u would make more money by selling them whole.

irrespective of whether u decide to strip them up or try and sell them whole if theyre working, u will make a very good profit.

either way, theres going to be lots of work involved because u seem to have a LOT of stuff.

$12 for all of that is a steal. I wish I could find deals like that. My company pays more than $12 for all those nice pallets in the picture when we need to purchase some. I would personally pay $2 each for those and be happy around here.

If he was trolling you all, I doubt he'd be posting or PM'ing with anyone.

While hard to believe, it happens every day. Good deals that is. He is in or near New Orleans.

It's all about being at the right place at the right time. Will he find a deal like this every day? Of course not, an he would be foolish to think he would, as would anyone else. Can't fault a guy for taking advantage of a good deal when it bops you in the face.

If it does end up being a hoax, I shall release the goats of doom upon him.

As the others told you OP...read the forums, plenty of info to help ya out. An it will help us, and WBSTS(charles) help you out a bit better. Our biggest buyer on here can help with shipping if need be, an we also have the wonderful Gorven who offers a his own shipping via trucks. Very good pricing if you end up going that route. An I do suggest you do if you end up with pallets of goodies to sell.

If I were him, I would sell to a scrap yard and get 60 or 70 cents on the dollar. You leave money on the table but you get it off your property ASAP. Especially since he has no idea how to strip the PC of parts or know what the parts are worth. Stick to what you are good at and scrapping PCs doesn't sound like his area of expertise. To strip these PCs for the RAM and CPUs it would probably take him 3 months assuming 10 PCs a day since he probably has another job. Just not worth it. Finding another deal like this is time better spent. The money is in getting the deals not scrapping every nickel out of the PC.

he was offered $3K above by someone on this board...of course this was after shipping costs...but really, shipping wouldn't be crazy. 200 laptops fit into 1 gaylord.....probably with room to spare.
