A big conservationist that burns tires and wire? Isn't that an oxymoron? Like saying I am a vegetarian but occasionally I will eat a steak.

According to the Department of Natural Resources of Iowa, burning tires and other types of plastic is strictly prohibited. Just because you live in the sticks doesn't mean the law doesn't apply to you.

New law in Georgia states that if you bring in burned wire you must have an electricians state license or a police report or abatement certification in regards to the fire that burned the wires. No more burning wires in a barrel. That was always bad form in my book. Improvise or buy a wire stripper.

You will not stop by my house and find that I am out buck hugging a tree. However, one of the things that brings me satisfaction is knowing I am helping the environment and keeping things from the landfill. Of Course cash is #1, #2 creating a downstream of economic activity at the yard, transportation, smelters, end users, #3 helping the environment.

In addition to the harmful emissions from burning wire it will reduce your yeild. The crappy 40 something % from comuter wire could be like 35% then I get $0.80 per lbs for insulated, $2.60 for copper, it almost seems like a break even.

This is going to be way off topic so I am sorry,

We all have diffrent opinions, in this great country of ours that is our right. In the rural areas of my state it is allowed to burn garbage. If you live in a town or city and they have a garbage and recycling program then it is illegal to burn. "Despite the health and environmental impacts of burning trash, one-third of Iowa’s cities still allow it. It’s also allowed in rural areas except within Polk County." That was by Mindy Kralicek Air Quality Information Specialist, Iowa DNR. I am not saying it is a good thing but it isn't illegal. Burning tires seems to be. My area doesn't have a local garbage pick up or a recycling program. Alot of these small towns around here can't afford to recycle because by the time they rent the bins and have to pay to have things processed it costs to much money. I am not going to drive my garbage 30 miles to the nearest sanitary landfill and have them charge me to drop off my garbage when I can go outside and burn it.

I am a conservationist in the sense that I improve my land and plant native flora and encourage animals to my property. I just don't see the point in wasting my time and gas and money to get rid of house hold garbage.

I am sorry that we got way off topic.

Geiser You are absolutly right atleast from what I have seen. It does end up about even.

3 wire insulated radio worth stripping?

I took some advice and asked the guy at the yard what i could do to make more money off the 40+ lbs of copper. He said that the no 2 wire i had was worth more sold as insulated that if i strip/burn it will melt away the weight. So i'll be experimenting to see myself. Also some thin flat no 3 wire he said the same thing about this. Then he just started unloading it from my truck and was acting like i never told him i wasn't going to scrap it today.
Ive been asking around with what to do with coax 500 ft costs about $35-$50 brand new so youre better off finding someone who needs some coax cable. Is that possible now ah days? Cat 5 is what is being run in houses for Higher streams of data.
Also have a working section of 8 -3 size insulated 220 wire sells new for $2.44 a ft at home depot. Well i put it on craigslist and didnt get one reply.
RJ11 phone wire what should i do with this?
