I remember reading about how cars were getting stolen just for the airbags. They can be pretty dangerous too if they go off when you are in not the right position behind the wheel or passengers seat.(ie scrapping)

Several may go off at the same time & that was caused just by a 'bump' from the rear by another car. ie No damage to the car, but it just blew up $1500 worth of airbags..........

The 2 that I have seen were made in USA. Do you wanna trust your life to a Chinese airbag? Hence the expense.

Good tires I sell with Craig's help
or I sell to a local used tire shop

Junk tires stay on the car

hey.. hope you know about the legal issues like if your car is not insured or taxed then you can have it collected from the scrap collection else if the cops catch you driving it, you might have a problem..

Up here, there's a company that specialize in buying all good tires from cars bought by scrap yards and resell them to used tire garages. Example: a rundown Pontiac 6000 won't probably have good tires when sent to the scrapper, but a wrecked beyond repair Tesla Model 3 can usually have at least two good ones.
NEW TO SCRAPPING? READ THIS: Build up your horde of magnetic and non-magnetic metals in two piles until you have a better understanding of the business. Magnetic material has low value and is mostly always steel / shred / short iron. Read old threads about non-magnetic metals and ewaste (and how to sort them), but don't forget that they generally have absolutely no tolerance for contamination (screw / iron / foreign material).

And the insurer won't buy it after it was declared totaled?

If it is yours and you have the titles, search online or in the yellow pages for some u-pick scrap yard and ask a few of them how much they offer you for your car and if the pickup is included and you choose the one that you prefer. You can also try to sell the car for the running engine on Kijii, Marketplace or in the daily paper's classifieds, but the value will depend on the make, model, year and mileage and it won't assure you a better price than scrap.

Which Province are you in and is the car registered in the same, Each province has different rules and regulations depending on damage.
