While a simple file/grinder magnet test will tell you what you have, keep in mind Zinc is non-ferrous and is very close to brass weight. I have some large door handles that after you take the brass finish off are white/silver color (White Brass). I believe it has a higher mix of zinc. Also found on nice sink faucet neck and handles. I have a bucket of items for the yard to test so I can grade it as Zinc or brass but most of the time they throw it in with my Yellow brass.

I'm going to recycle the world.
