Im having trouble figuring out how to split the earnings?

I want to begin scrapping with my uncle but were unsure on how to make this fair. He currently fills a 40ft steel container to pay rent for the shop he works out of and he scraps the electronics to eat off of and for a little extra play cash. what are some ideas of things I could do to put money in my pocket or how the earnings can be divided so that hes not losing out but were both gaining?

are you planning on sortin g the stuff better or finding him better prices?

If so, you could split the difference between what he would have gotten, and what you get for him. While you are at it, try to learn some of his skills, never know when they may be useful, or could provide a temporary job.

i have deals with several of my friends who haul junk.....i strip all the e waste (( anything with a board im interested in )))) for them....i get the boards for my labor ..and they get a nice clean pile of sorted junk..if there is a good bit of weight i pay them 10 cents per pound for the boards...if i get something thATs considerably valuable like a good hard drive or something ill kick them some extra cash after i sale it.....keep in mind this is what i do with friends and family....i usually have to make them take anything when i go to pay them,,,they are happy with just getting there stuff stripped for free..

i also do this for a couple businesses i pay them anywhere from 20 to 40 cents per pound for the boards i take , and they are all very happy with this

Like the others have said, help him break down everything for max profit, maybe this will free him up to go out and get some more scrap for the both of you.

So is he only taking electronics or other scrap? If only electroincs not much you could do, even breaking down boards to make more money. Make sure he is removing high dollar boards and stuff, but even then if he is selling local, I am not sure how much more money you could get by mailing it to buyers here.

See if you can get a better price for the material than he is. If so take the differance. For example many of my buddies get alot lower prices for their material since they dont bring the volume like I do so I can take their stuff in for them and I make money and they do as well.

Get your own vehicle and trailer and do your own scrapping on your own, or if you want to help your uncle, throw scrap on his pile and don't worry about getting money for it. Perhaps clean it for/with him or show him where some of the better lodes are while you drink a beer and have a good time with your uncle.

In my experience, it is way better to gift help than it is to try to figure out how to get a piece of his action.

Do you contribute to the scrap pile or are you just looking to stick your hand in his cookie jar without leaving crumbs all over the counter?

But either way, my best advice is: Try asking your uncle himself. See what he says. He will cut you in if he sees a benefit i'm sure.
