Maybe you could advertise them before picking them up and see what kind of demand there is in your area. Even saw an arena made out of them with twisted steel cable running through them top and bottom. Everything has value to the right person and it depends if they are plastic or metal.

You mention in another thread about the farm mother lode you found. Your 55 gallon drums will be valuable for sorting metal. Problem is your Crown Vic will not pick them up loaded. Maybe this is the time to invest in equipment (skid steer, trailer, and truck) for the farm scrap. After completing the job you could sell everything if you decide not to pursue this occupation. Just a thought.
I sucks that I only got the crown vic and not enough resources. College sucks. But it will pay off eventually and I can set-up whatever kind of rig I want. What kind of truck and trailer do you recommend? like a ranger and a 4x6? or a dump truck and a flatbed?

More information about your situation, risk tolerance, storage space, etc. would be needed to make a recommendation. Provide a summary of your situation and members of the forum will offer their insight. Good luck.

There are many companies that receive food products in steel and plastic barrels. There's one company in Nashville that makes candy bars and after talking to the warehouse manager I was able to pick up as many as I wanted. Didn't have to worry about any toxic chemicals.

Another important variable is fuel mileage.

Are you keeping a car for personal use, or does the truck take you everywhere? The bigger the truck, the more it costs to drive. This doesnt not matter so much when you are loaded, as generally the bigger the truck, the more money it is carrying into the scrap yard. It matters when you are driving to the store, your friends house, school, etc...
