    Hoping for some in-sight

I was offered a really nice opportunity to scrap/salvage as much of a house before it is demolished in two months. Copper everywhere plumbing/Gas//Electrical/ cabinet door nobs etc...Antique flooring and doors, antique stain glass windows...

The question is. This property is smack dab in the middle of town, right next to the police station. I'm guessing I should technically apply for a permit? or am I over complicating the situation?

Any help or in sight into any of this would be great...even if it doesn't address the main question.

Has anyone had experience with asking the utilities to cut the lines. Water has been cut for years I believe gas and electric are still in service. I am planning on cutting the electricity last, so we can use the lights/outlets.

Is there any pushback with you saying " I literally need the line severed ?"

I can't speak for gas however getting the power removed is as easy as a phone call. There may be a service fee but the last thing a utility company wants is a disaster. They removed the wire from the utility pole when I had it done. I called direct but you may be able to call the 811 (call before you dig) number and they may be able to point you in the right direction. The permit part well...................

Who is the leagl owner of the property it is probably up to them to turn off all services. A far as the police I would check in and let them know you are contracted to do this job especially if you are working ar night. Just so they know that it is not a thief pulling copper pipes from an abandoned house

Full demo of a building here requires a license and a permit. If you are leaving the structure you might be able to avoid the permit but then again we have no idea where you are.

Before you do ANY demolition, make sure there isn't any asbestos contained in the house. Not only because it causes cancer, but because some states allow you to remove it yourself and put it on the curb if the house is still livable. It's either that or pay a few grand to have it removed. I learned that the hard way.

Also, you'll want to make sure the gas, electric, and water are all cut before you start. A call or two to the utility company should take care of this at little or no cost. You'll also want to call the city office about any permits or things, and also to have any taxes on the house taken off.

And some of those building materials can fetch quite a bit. Make sure to look into that before you go and break everything.

I did a house about a year ago, and it ended up being a lot of fun. It's nice to be able to smash through anything you want without caring about the damage.

The demo company should have all the permits from the town if possible post them before you start don't make it too easy for your temporary neighbors lol
If not a small meeting with demo company representative you and an officer will clear up your police problem and take about 15 minutes.
