I was reading the thread on propane tanks tonight and was trying to post there and realized how dangerous everything is. anything from ewaste to vehicles. ive gotten more cuts and scrapes from breaking down computers than i have had from removing radiators. with the tanks ive cut hundreds of them, i pop the valve with it clamped down, ive popped the valve on fire extinguishers clamped down that have nearly knocked me down( im a big guy) on propane tanks i pop the valve and wait, sometimes for weeks(ive got a few that i may never cut) and when i don't smell propane any more walking by i recheck each one(smelling) i throw them to the cut pile, i then cut the tank on the oposite side from the hole where the valve was located. im by no means saying this is the right way, its just the way we do it here

change of pace, last week i was cutting off a converter and ive done at this point hundreds, my blade jammed up in the pipe, jerked my hand off the saw and the saw came back and knocked the crap outa my thumbnail, hurt like heck and bled under the nail, my point is sometimes we do things so often that we become less alert.

this goes from dumpster diving, breaking down towers, ac units, or just pulling your trailer.

from a wrench slipping to a screwdriver through a finger, hammers, saws the list is endless, start looking at the scars on your hands and try to remember them all

this one sounds stupid, but most of you know we got the two new trucks recently, ive got 3 5speesds and one automatic, all three of us that are here all the time have reached for a gear shift thats not there, slammed our foot into a spot where the clutch is suppose to be, the right situation and it could be bad.

1st and foremost, if you ever ask should i be doing this the answer is probably no

we all do different things but me and my guys do the following

wear seat belts
use safty glasses,
wear gloves when needed
ear protection when needed
wear steel toes (mines composite)

there is no piece of scrap that you will ever cash in that will be worth a finger, eye or even your life, so please just be careful

I had a box of safely glasses left over from the print shop. I am always looking around to find the one pair I left laying who-knows-where. Last week I was getting some florescent bulbs down from up in the ceiling in the shop. Just 2 at a time. Yea, one caught something just right and exploded. I felt the force and the krap flying into my left eye. Spent the rest of that day with an eye patch on and the better part of the next. DUHHHHH

Always seems to be the simple stuff.
So, I got that box out and went around and put a pair of glasses on the chop saw, band saw, drill press, etc...one in every tool box.

Now, if I can only find my reading glasses, so I can find all the safety glasses.

Only On I get a cut is I don't have gloves on. Any small cut for me is a mess because I take coumadin for my heart vaslve.

Knowing the hoods your going to is a good idea too. Left an auction last week empty handed and headed to a scheduled appliance pick up in a suburb that doesn't have the best rep...completed the pick up and got about a block away and the van takes a crap. Here I am dead in the water, cash on hand with my pea shooter at home and no App on my phone to translate the graffiti on the fences around me. Called one of the tow companies I like and fortunately they had a driver available and I was home within the hour.

Ended up being the fuel pump that thankfully has a access panel above it from the previous owner so dropping the tank was not needed.

I need to get a face shield of some sort. I get hit in the face more than other other injury. Either by stuff recoiling back at me or stuff I've sent airborne by smacking it with a hammer or sledgehammer.

I keep my safety glasses with my wallet and put them on before I even leave the house sunglasses kept on dash in truck. So I always have on some form of safety glasses. I licked out and found a stihl hard hat with the ear murder and face shield on it. I wear this when running my gas powered cut off but keep the safety glasses on. Only got two eyes. And as far as cuts. I look at my hands at the end of the day and think where the heck did all those cuts come from.

I have one of these.
3M Tekk Protection Clear Professional Face Shield-90028-80025T at The Home Depot

So far, so good. Works great for sand blasting. I have a hood, but it fogs up so I use a mask and shield. Used it yesterday while running a wire wheel. Keeps the wires out of my face, eyes, whatever.

Reviews say it's fragile and won't last long. Maybe not, but it's better than the Harbor Freight shield I have. Also this one has a "crown shield" which Face Shield with Flip-Up Visor does not.

DumbD; It would seem to me if what you said about blowing .06 because of your meds. is true. That when you go to court you should bring your meds and a letter from your Dr. and you can get the charges droped. My prayers are with you and your faimly.

The cop did a breath test and I blew .06 BAC.

I just got back around after three weeks in out of town county jail, due to $8000 bond.

The fool is taking me to small claims court since insurance says it was his fault.

and I'll probably loose my driver's license for a while (trying to rework my ENTIRE scrap profession now due to that mess)...depending on lab result and/or court outcome...

... been sleeping in a "cold weather shelter" with interesting folks, while the wife and kids are at my mom's place...

Being broke is MUCH worse than injured though IMO!
...$1000 tow lot fee, Expired truck registration, county sticker, and insurance...

Did you drink while taking the Ativan? You should have been warned to not mix the two. Both alcohol and Ativan depress the central nervous system. Together their individual effect is magnified. There should have been a sticker on your pill bottle.

Ativan is a very addicting drug and the addiction is a nightmare. I used to work with people who got addicted to drugs like Ativan. Ativan,Xanax, Valium, Librium, Klonopin - they are part of a class of drugs known as benzodiazipines. A significant percent of the population will develop a tolerance for these drugs - that is- it takes progressively more of the drug to get the same effect, leading to addiction.

That is why certain medications are controlled - hence the name "controlled substances"." Alcohol affects about 10% of the population in that way - a much smaller number of people will develop tolerance to it than to narcotics or benzos - which is one of the reasons that it is legal and readily available in this part of the world anyway. In some countries alcohol is outlawed and is considered as dangerous as heroin.

So once people start needing more of the drug than what their doctor is willing to prescribe they immediately run into a problem. They have to go to multiple doctors. They might even lie to their own doctor about their meds being stolen etc. Their doctor might even dump them as a patient if they suspect addiction - I 've seen it done. Which is very dangerous because withdrawal from benzos is potentially fatal if not done with medical supervision.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but unless it was for a procedure - like dental work or a colonoscopy- I wouldn't touch those drugs with a ten foot pole.

I'm sorry for the run of bad luck that you've had, but I can just about guarantee that it won't get any better if you get addicted to those drugs.

Not true, if some one was throwing away 1Kg gold bars. I would gladly give up a finger.

i probably overdue saety but i also overdue insuarance and it still goes up leather palmed gloves hazmat suits safety vests knee pads wrist guards and back braces in every truck as well as first aid kits and saline solution
