Anybody ever come across one of these things?

I saw something curbside yesterday that looked interesting, and I grabbed it. No clue what it was until I had a chance to google it this morning. Turns out its a piece of photography dark room equipment, specifically a Photo enlarger. Specifically a Simmon Omega B-8, produced until 1974 ish.

All I saw was some Aluminum and wire at a minimum. Looked it up on good 'ol ebay and people are asking upwards of $200 for these things, but no bids on any of the listings. There is a sticker on the one I have with $20, I guess the owner tried to sell at a yard sale and was unable to.

Any advice on where to sell or should I just break it down and add to my respective buckets? I'm fine with tearing it apart, unless somebody knows of a way to get significantly more than scrap for it...

Photo attached is not the actual one I have, but the same type.

Try Craigslist, or look for a photography forum

We have gotten a number of these. Sold one for a hundred bucks, the others I couldn't give away. I think the 100 was a fluke. I scrapped the others.

My guess it's like anything else, you've just got to find the market for it(if a feasable one exists)

If your listed location is correct, i would think you would have a lot of starving artist around that might be playing w/ film. Post it on craigslist. The main concern is going to be condition and how expensive replacement lens/mounts/etc parts are.

You could contact a photography/printing school/class and see if the professor wants to let his students know. 20$ is better than scrap. If you do scrap it save the lens for magnifying glasses.

Brucie is spot on saying to visit an art/photography school. Thats where I got the best price for my Omega B8. Some of them are still teaching darkroom courses and the Omegas were the workhorses of pro enlargers.
Today is a gift and the first day of the rest of your life. What will you do with it?

If your in S. Jersey you may want to look at the art institute in Philly or Antonelli Institute which I believe is over by Plymouth Meeting, PA
