it does answer the majority of my question, and thank you. I had been saveing the round, disk shaped things (multitude of colors and sizes), I noticed if you knocked the shell off of them with a hammer, they were what looked like metal, similar in shape and size to a watch battary, and bigger, but they weren't magnetic, and I pretty dern sure they aren't aluminum, so it got me to thinkin. It's the things that kinda look like M&M's.

the top picture. The bottom ones are caps. if I remember correctly.

The top pic is called disc caps and the bottom is can caps.

gotcha, any sense in saving them? or am I just making a coffee can paper weight? (not that it's very heavy, they have about the same weight as aluminum)

Not that I know of, but you might try google and see what comes up. The can caps have an alum can surrounding a mess of insides but it would take a bunch of them to make any weight.any sense in saving them? or am I just making a coffee can paper weight?

They have little blocks of Tantalum inside them. I just crush the plastic coating off them with pliers.
I save the Tantalum as I might find a buyer for it one day.

why are you looking for palladium specifically.
why not ask or look for gold, copper or more generally available scrap.
btw , how much would a pound of mmc caps go for.

Im not looking for palladium specifically, i scrap mostly copper, alum, and brass, but have been scrapping some electronics lately and have been saving the boards, time is something i have, so i was curious if it would be profitable to start saving some of the componets as opposed to selling the boards as a whole. As it is i remove the heat sinks and transformers. I find mostly low grade boards, t.v.s mostly. Was just curious if there was an "edge" i was missing. No one collects escrap in my area, so i just got the idea that it may be a worthwhile adventure, so im just starting my research on it.

If no one is doing escrap in your area then I would start. Even shipping to buyers if you can get the stuff for free or next to nothing will pay better than copper anyday in my opinion.

that is my plan, in the long run anyhow, gotta start small as I have no capital. I got 5 comp. towers and a server tower yesterday, and a pickup full of printers and copiers today.

I knew the answer but I didn't want to sound like a know-it-all by answering everybody's questions all the time, it gets on peoples nerves, you know???they are located in the micro mmc capacitors located on the circuit boards. they are the little rectangle things in the picture and the video shows a ram chip and where to get them off of the ram. but they are on all computer motherboards and processors and things like that.
does that answer the initial question? because it sounds like no one else knew but me?

I found out the answer. Someone told me today that the reason the inside of crt screen looks silver is because it has a platinum coating. Apparently, the coating is worth $250, but you can't get at it because the manufacturers mix poisonous chemicals in with the platinum to stop tv delivery lorries getting hijacked.

What good is this forum if people (newbes or vets) ask questions that they can't find the answers to get treated like dumb a@#. I thought this forum was here to help fellow scrapers out. It seems to me if your not one of the good old boys your just s!@# out of luck. I have been a forum member for a few months now and what this forum realy is. Again my .02
