When you're hitting a spot, and run across something you're not interested in, but know someone else might be do you leave a hint or something to mark they should look there?

Negative. Sounds rude, but i think that the less other people have, the less interested they will be in trying to find more. Which means less competition for me.

I've pointed stuff out to friends when I wasn't currently interested in it, but you never know when something you're not currently interested in might become interesting. Why point it out to somebody you'll never even meet?

I have a network of people for things like this. Just last week I met a gold/precious metal/antique dealer at a restaurant. He'll steer some my way and give me 10% commission for any referrals he follows up on. I have an arrangement with another guy who restores bicycles. Works to both our benefit.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

The only thing I do to signal anything to anyone is lay my TVs face down do that the missing cord and the giant hole in the back where the circuit board used to be will tell other scrappers that the TV is no good to them...

Other than that, I'd probably bury something and come back later if I couldn't take it right then....

I'm with Hoss as well. I will actually "sabotage" so to speak. Pull the good stuff from inside of CRT/TVs, button it back up and tape over any major holes to appear as an untouched CRT/TVs without a cord. Back to the curb they go and they always get picked up before morning. I don't feel bad about it because everyone and their brother is becoming a "scrapper".

Sure they may get a little bit of scrap steel, but having to haul bulky heavy TVs anywhere they go, will hopefully help discourage the masses that have been coming out of the wood works.

I tend to agree with the majority on this subject. This is a competitive business we're all in and the idea is to keep other people from congregating our routes. By signaling someone else to something in an area you normally look in the only thing you end up doing is give this person a reason to come back another time which may result in them taking something from you that you are interested in. In other words there's no friends in business only competition.

I work a few sent of people. But I make sure it all ways works on my behave or its not worth it to me.

There is one guy who I will keep in my phone encase there is a pick up of scrap that I don't want to get an I will tell him here it is an how much it is an how MUCH he HAS to pay me for it. He can't take a look at before hand an sometimes I have photos sometimes not. But he will tell me he wants it or not.

We have worked together a few times an he has learned to trust me as I wont send him on a wild run for nothing. So he is pretty happy to pay the price I set.

Yes i am...Dont pay your dues...I'll hunt you down an SHOOT YOU!!!!...

No not really lol...I am pretty laid back an the people who do work with me love it. I will give them loans an send them on good runs..Just dont do me dirty an we all will be happy. If someone did me dirty they wont get leads on good jobs that I dont want or have time to go get.

It was like 2 weeks ago I sent this one guy to this pick up I had to do...it was around 35 or so pallets of mix computer scrap. They made a killing on it but they had to pay up for it tho.

I totally agree with gueroinchicago. Watch out those competitors who are so friendly by day and steal from you at night.

One could use a GPS and store your favorite picking sites.
