this is way out of my area but id thought id pass it along, 22 tons of scrap metal. looks like a good amount of street signs also, some excellent resale value there

Ok, this may be a really dumb question, but why doesn't the state of NY just haul it to the scrap yard themselves??

    just paying it forward

from my experience alot of signs are aluminum, however they are worth alot more to collectors than as scrap

I think they do it to get the most cash out of it with zero labor expense.

    Because that would make sense.

if anyone here gets that I put up signs the first two years I was at the city. if any of the signs are still on the polls they could be riveted, for easy removal get a piece of 1/2 inch rod, grind a groove in the end, weld a cap on the other and hit the sleeve of the rivet with a hammer, my personal invention when I worked there and they still use it today

edit the rod needs to be 3 feet long that way you can pop both rivets without moving

For what it is worth be real careful with scrapping a lot of what they have listed. Around here there is not a yard I know of that will touch the guardrails or signs.
You can make money 2 ways.
    1 - Do what others won't.
    2 - Do what others can't.

My yard will take scrap like this and even rail road scrap if I have a proper RECEIPT to show I acquired it legally. On this sale a copy of the auction listing would be sufficient. Unfortunately 946 miles / 15:28 hours is a little out of my pick up area!

If they would flush the city officials and the city/county school system and start over it would be better.

Build a larger prison and keep the people in jail that are supposed to be there.

I've lived in worse. You should live in other countries and you will love Memphis or even the worse city in the US.

My thought exactly. How in the world did they make any money at that price?
