I would sell now, your hoarding will bite in the end. For every 100# of copper you have you just lost 20.00, if your hoarding and copper keeps going down(and there is no sign of it comming back up for a while) You'll lose even more. 20.00 per 100# for every .20 it goes down.

I don't have to sell it anytime soon. I could hold it for a year and it wouldn't matter.

I have been hoarding stripped wire (bare bright and #2) since the first of the year and currently sitting on about 300 lbs. I will wait a little longer, no need to cash in yet.

Just because the market is dropping I would not look at it as losing money! I have nothing invested as far as buying copper and I sit on 1000's of pounds of it.. I look at it as if it was a ira fund or stock.. keep saving it is my vote!

You do realize everyone "getting copper in now" and flooding the market only makes the drop worse. You can be a sheep and follow the herd if you want to, but me I don't have a dime invested in my copper and more than willing to wait for more money.

Average copper prices by me since 2008

    #2 copper
    2008 $2.45
    2009 $2.03
    2010 $2.48
    2011 $2.99
    2012 $2.90
    Today $2.60

    Lowest $1.90 Highest $3.30

Do I think we will see prices as low as 2009? Nope. (At least I hope not!)

An old boy round here who retired from running a local coop once laid this little gem on me:
Bears will make money, bulls will make money but hogs always go broke.

My 85 year old father in law needed me to get rid of some stuff for him as he is replacing his fence in the back yard. I told him he may want me to move it instead of taking it in, as prices could be lower. I took it to the yard and prices were down but not as much as I feared.
    Alum MLC .60
    Alum Ext .65
    Alum Cast .50
    Dirty Alum .25
    Stainless .50
    Elect motors .25
    #2 Ins wire .95
    Alum cans .80

He made almost $300 to add to the fence fund! LOL

Cant help but laugh a post about copper dropping .20 a pound, I can remember selling copper for .40 cents a pound. When it hit $1.00 we all did a happy dance, anymore it pretty much follows the rise and fall in the price of gas.

Really what is the reason for the sudden price drop?

I lost about $30 today at the scrap yard today copper
    & brass is down.

    here are my yard prices:

Clean Copper no 1 $6.00 down $5.50 per kilo

Copper Dirty no 2 $5.00 down $4.50 per kilo

Brass $3.50 down $3.00 per kilo

Does anybody know how long this is going to last?
If it keeps going this way I am pulling out of the game.

    :-(

I've been lucky lately. Last few times I sold my scrap, price went down the next day. And the few other times before that, price went up that morning.
Someone must be watching over me...
