    R600

This question is for the guys that are recycling refrigeration equipment. Lately I have been seeing anywhere from 4 to 10 units a week with R600 (Butane) as the refrigerant. I have talked to manufacturers of the recovery equipment that I use (Apion and others) and they all say not to even try to use their equipment for recovering Butane. Has anyone come up with a solution for recovering this?

I haven't been doing much with refrigerant recycling lately, so I haven't run into it yet. I did do some research and there are at least 3 companies that make recovery pumps that can handle this. Try ecogreenindustries.net, galaxair.com and sanitarysteel.com. pumps seem to run between $1000 and $3200.

Interesting fact: Porsche and Ferrari both were sued in the 70s for using R600 in their cars. Ferrari in particular had a problem because they used magnesium for a firewall...ironic eh?

just a random thought. look into propane or natural gas recovery methods. maybe that will lead somewhere
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.
