Disc from disc drive shattered in my face

so in my room taking apart the thing i hate to take apart the most hard disk drives! well i got one open and without thinking was using the screwdriver under the magnet and without thinking was using the reflective disk as leverage. Worst idea ever!!! within seconds the disk shattered throwing glass like pieces everywhere. one went in my eye it wasn't bad so i continued to pick up the pieces when it shifted on my eye. i rushed to the bathroom to take a look and wash it out. what i saw was a miracle the piece was stuck i my eye lash thank the lord i might not have an eye right now!!!

man your lucky! just a suggestion though next time you might want to put on a pair of safety glasses before you work on that stuff.
better to be safe than sorry.

Did the same thing not too long ago. What a mess. Fortunately no injury .... other than to my pride (due to embarrassment). Part of the learning curve for me.

Is it necessary to remove those shiny CD's? I thought the body and shiny disc all went in cast alum

Lite a candle at your church and thank God and your patron Saint for looking out for you that day. Or if your not the churchgoing type donate some old glasses or money to a charity that deals with eyesight problems. You've got some sort of guardian angel watching over you for sure.

Safety, safety, safety. I have become so used to wearing safety glasses, even when pouring molten metal and also wearing a face shield, that I tend to wear them no matter what type of work I am doing. Even when removing a metal button and slag from a slag mold, I wear them. Too many times they have saved pieces of glass/slag from hitting my eyes. Thermal expansion makes the slag pop and throw pieces of tiny shards of glass a good distance.

As other have suggested, I'm going to as well. Wear safety goggles. I know it seems silly and that they can become uncomfortable sometimes, but you will soon get used to them and then feel naked not wearing them. Wear them, they cost less than loosing an eye. Wear them whenever you are working on anything, even if you don't think you need them. You never know what might shatter, break, pop off and end up in your eye.

    Same with earmuffs.
Loud noises are distracting and earmuffs or plugs only remove the sounds that will deafen you, not human voices (much) infact you can sometimes hear stuff you couldn't hear before.

Its removes the 'Ting' of metal hitting metal, that's the sound that deafens you. One loud hit of a hammer against a cold chisel and my ears ring all day.

Remember, you can shut your eyes, but you cannot shut your ears.....
