About five years ago, I considered getting into the recovery business and spec'd a new f650 with 20' Jerr-Dan - $87,000. Considering that you're not getting new, there are plenty used rollbacks out there - fairly new but either really high miles (rural) or beat to death (urban and rural). If you're careful, there can be some good buys for someone who wants it for occasional use hauling junk cars/trucks. Just stick with the 650/6500 or you'll need a CDL. Make sure it's posted "not for hire" and insurance shouldn't be more than a pickup would be.

I'd still recommend a trailer, though, for scrap hauling.
