Question What is the dark coloured copper called

Hey all i was just wondering what the darker coloured copper is called?
I sometimes get the dark copper from pulling apart electric motors and TVs
monitors which i rarely pull apart due to the risk of being shocked electrocuted.

The last time which was the first time i went to my local scrap dealer i made the
big mistake of mixing the darker colored copper in with the brighter stuff and instead
of getting $6.00 a kilo for the brighter stuff he only gave me $5.00 a kilo for all
of my copper which is what the darker stuff is worth. in the end i had a total of 13 kilo's
of copper for which i got $89.90 for, so this time around i am being very careful to not mix
it in together and keeping it in seperate bags.

    Cheers take care all thecritta

#1 copper is what I believe your describing. 2nd best copper due to oxidation. Unless it's enameled copper then you probably got paid accordingly minus your BB

Are you talking about laquered copper - the stuff you find on tv yokes?

I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

Wire inside tvs and electric motors has a coating on it and in new jersey they give u #2. If its bright and shiny its considered bare bright and pays top dollar. Keep hunting this site for info/idetifications this site has all the answers u just need to look and don't b afraid to ask. Better luck to u.

I think i sold some BB as #2 just because it came out of a TV or monitor. I've read a number of threads about those yolks but had come to believe they were all coated. oh man! i messed up there lol ; )

All wire from any motor or transformer is laquered copper and should go in #2 pile but some people seem lucky and their yards accept it as #1. Maybe because they don't notice the slight difference in colour.

I have never gotten anything more than #2 for copper out of tv's and electronics, it's to thin to be #1.

That is not always the case if you have read the older posts, my yard and a couple of others pay #1 as long as it's the natural looking color, now if it's darker or another color then it's automatically #2.

I got #1 for some thick wire from a transformer from a power conditioner. It was lacquered but graded #1 nonetheless.

i lacquered mine twice and they still gave me #2 ??

Actually I'm fairly sure if I had placed the BB(looking) with the #1 they'd not said a thing about leaving it there
