Most fridges have styrofoam insulation, right? And alot of times, there is wire, or copper tube snaking through it, that is a pain in the rear sometimes to clean..
Would gasoline melt the styrofoam away? Given gas is not cheap, but could it work to make it easier?
I'm thinking old used gasoline from lawn mowers, or something like that.

You mean the fiberglass insulation? I've never run across one with anything other than that but I dont get many either.
I bet it would work. One way to find out is to try it. I would but I don't have any old gasoline hanging around.
New, on some fridges and freezers, there is solid foam inside the shell that the copper and sometimes wires run through.

sounds like a good idea to me, rca. I remember struggling with one of those once...maybe the next person who gets one will be willing to try it and let us know ??!!

looks like once the styrofoam melts it then will later harden into a plastic like material. Someone should try this. If I find a fridge, I still have some bad gas to get rid of I will do it.

I know gasoline will eat right through a styrofoam cup. I learned that many years ago. PB Blaster will too, but not as fast as gasoline...and it costs a lot more.

Check with your local police and fire departments. Unfortunately, in LOTS of areas, this is a no no, and you can get fined for burning anything but wood!

With all the other environmental issues we talk about on here, wouldn't the EPA frown on this use of gasoline?
Also, is it really worth your time? After mine have freon removed and I get the copper and other juicy bits from it I can't imagine tearing down fridges any further.

I would hate to go through all that work to find out the lines are not copper but steel. Check the lines first with a magnet.

Yes this would be a wrong way of using gas as far as EPA is concerned. Dont ask me how I know this
