    Scrapping a 1998 Haro bicycle

Ok I have a 1998 Haro Zi BMX bike. It's only rusted on the chain and breaks need replacement. I should sell it, but quicker cash would be better.

It has a steel frame (non-stainless), cromoly fork and other parts, etc.

Will scrap yards in general take cromoly and if so, as what?

Also what would you guestimate I'd get if I stripped it to scrap? Just want to see of I should wait it out.

Although it would make picking up cans in the neighborhood easier, I just don't feel a BMX is big enough when I end up with 2 full bags 3+ miles away from my apartment.

Just want some general opinions on the subject. The wheels are stainless but most isn't, what I call magnetic friendly (aka ferrous or non-ferrous)

I wouldn't scrap it. It's only gonna be $15-20 scrapped but a few hundred if you sell it. If you don't absolutely need the cash, I'd put an ad on craigslist.
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer

They'll take it as Light Iron - about 0.10/lb

I get a lot of bicycle frames and wheels. The spokes are probably steel and the rims may be aluminum. A lot of frames are aluminum with iron parts ( connections, etc). I just throw them in as Irony Aluminum for 0.18/lb. Like Scrap man said - you'd do a lot better selling it as a whole bike. Stick it on CL and might be gone by tomorrow anyway.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Put an add on Craigs List in the bikes section. You will beable to sell it for more than you will get in scrap. If you price it reasonably you will sell it very quick. When I get items that are still useable I will try to sell them on Craigs List before taking them to the scrap yard. Even if I get a few dollars more than scrap its better letting the item "live" then sending it to its destruction.
