    AC Units question

I rarely get any AC unit, but this week I've gotten 2.

First one was easy to take apart, no freon or anything juicy.

Second one however, had a lot of freon (I think), which I found this out by cutting a copper line and it spraying out gas like crazy.

My question is this: What is the liquid inside the compressor? That heavy mofo fell over, and some foamy liquid came out...Freaked me out I used a towel to stand it back up... What is this stuff? It seemed to clean the oil stains on my driveway pretty well though.

    relax

it is actualy a pretty hi grade machine oil. great for cutting oil, I keep a container of it and when I come a cross a rusted shut tool just throw it in, a couple of days later the tool works like a champ.

HOWEVER THE FREON THING IS A DEFINATE NO NO.

I wouldn't advertise that you cut refrigerant lines. On another note, keep your eyeballs away from it.

olddude is right. Think of it like engine oil, it lubricates the piston and crank inside that compressor.

I drain it into my oil container. Hadn't ever though of it being useful for something. Gonna have to keep some out of the next one. Got a couple giant rusty pipe wrenches out of my crawl space. Was just gonna scrap em. Maybe I can clean em up and sell em.

Serious injury or death may result when playing with freon or worse the EPA could come knocking.

when the fines are listed as $25,000+ for releasing ozone depleting gas into the air, yes... the EPA is worse. i mean, my minimum life insurance doesnt even come close to covering a fine like that!

Yeah I'm fairly new to scrapping and have been threatened and accused to stealing TV's that were mine when I was younger, and a broken window unit.

Greed gets to some more than others and they act out. Of course it's hard times these days but many always go a bit overboard with assumptions... At least from my experience.
