    Titanium?

I've had some golf clubs for awhile and couldn't figure out what they're made of. Just got several bicycle frames that seemed to be aluminum - but not quite. Another thread got me to thinking and they're likely titanium. Now the question is - What to do with them? I'm guessing that the yards up here will want to take them as aluminum, but I'll ask. What else could I do to get a better price?

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Bike's metal type is sometimes labeled on the vertical tube that the seat mounts to. If it is titanium it should have more resell value than scrap value.

I had clubs marked titanium right on them. They would only buy as aluminum. I dont even know if the scale guy knew how to say titanium. My yard has no price for it. I read somewhere 9$ a pound. I could of been high from sniffing glue though. I have a bunch more clubs marked titanium, they are in rough shape so I'm not going to try to resell them. A good selling outlet/ buyer would be nice, if anyone knows anyone?

On a side note Skippy said he had a leg made from titanium. Not that artificial limbs are funny; I just think we need Skippy right now.

I will call there tomorrow and double check that they are buying. They never have a minimum on anything. I will pm you in the morning and give you directions and price.

Yes, you can tell very easily by the spark titanium gives off when you grind it. It will be a very bright white spark.

And I would add that you should not put a torch to it. If you get it to ignite, you will not be able to extinguish it. It is like magnesium in that regard.

Titanium can bring you $1-$1.50 a lb. depending on how clean it is. This price is a reflection of the smelters having to check each individual piece with an XRF and to make sure it is completely clean. The problem with titanium is that if it even has a speck of iron, aluminum or any other contaminate the price will drop drastically. All the man power that goes into quality control of titanium is ultimately what drops the price.

seems like around a dollar is the going price, wouldnt you think it's worth more, i'm just thinking that Titanium is so valuable, that the scrap would be too. i found out on the net that a 1inch dia 1 foot long bar stock is $125.00? wow, same bar but copper is $30-$40

Can someone explain this to me? I see the post earlier but DAAMM

Titanium recycling ? no piece is small enough to worth wasting.

along with the answer from BohemianLush, it seems that only a small percentage of the titanium scrap actually makes it into finished product which would lead to the wide spread between new and scrap prices.

I was amazed at the low price paid for titanium scrap also. I have about 60lbs I need to bring in just waiting until I get more or need to go to the yard anyways.

Oh man, I know the OP is 2 years old but I wonder what Mick did with those bike frames?
If they weren't damaged/bent, titanium frames can go for several hundred dollars to well over a grand, depending on brand and style.
