You don't really hear things as being solid state anymore but as vacuum tubes started being replaced by transistors the makers would refer to it as being Solid State or no tubes.

Solid state are circuits built with devices such as transistors, capacitors, resistors, diodes and now with LED and LCD. Totally different than the vacuum tubes(glass looking bulbs) you used to find in antique TV's and radios.

sorry for the lack of clarity. I meant the electronics that have the epoxy-like substance poured all over and around it. I guess "Solid State" is not the right word for that. sorry for my ignorance everyone.

Most likely those are low grade boards, your best bet, snap a picture and post it and see what we can come up with.

If your talking about coil pac's and things of that nature, I'm sure there's copper in them but their epoxy baked and I don't know if you can open them up with good eye protection and a BFH, and a BUD

There are lots of threads on breaking down tv's and you should read a lot of the old threads. There can and often is a dangerous charge contained in tv's. Learn how to discharge them.

Start with the sticky threads at the top of the different sections. Read a lot of the dismanteling, breaking down..... section.

I am not certan but the red copper you refered to in the photo could be red colored Aluminum wire. I don't think it is but cut it and look at the end if its silver in color its most likely Aluminum(Al). Make sure you have a magnet with you. You have far to go in the non-ferous metal scraping part of the busines but its just fun tearing things apart. Mike.

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked

That is an early solid state tv set, look close as some pins where the wires plug in can possibly be gold plated and possibly a few transistors might have gold plated legs. You also have some aluminum heat sinks the transistors are screwed to maybe. Transformers are good along with wire wound coils and chokes (inductors). The big transformer is the one with the black wire coming out of it. I also pull the big IC chips. Also check these out. http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/elect...g-monitor.html
