    value of a clothes dryer

What is a clothes dryer worth at the scrap yard? I'm guessing proably $2-3.

    Re: clothes dryer

Well light iron around here is worth 195 a ton so your looking at around $8-$10 for every 100lbs

    Re: clothes dryer

This may sound trivial, but when scrapping a dryer I have found that it can be worth the effort to remove the back and see if anything has fallen to the bottom. I got a dryer recently that had a bunch of change caught in the fan that sucks the air through the rear vent. When it was all said and done, I had retrieved just short of $19 in change and also a broken heavy 20" sterling silver chain. I have heard of folks finding small gold rings, but I have yet to find any gold myself. I will shake a dryer, and if I hear anything loose in the bottom I will see what it is. Also, do not forget to remove the wiring harness, as the insulated copper is worth a lot more than what you are getting for the steel price. I have about 50# of insulated copper hoarded right now waiting for prices to go up.

Wayne1956 I never let a dryer leave my truck until I have smashed it apart. Over the years I have found thousands in dryer's not to mention other things like Jewelery. In fact thats the only reason I take dryers. They are too light for the amount of space they require. Like the new fridges. They weigh almost nothing and take up a lot of space.

I completely agree with the drier thing! It always makes me happy for me to pick one up. Picking up a drier is a bit like picking up a lotto scratch ticket in my mind, except you dont have to pay for it.

I never pass up a dryer, I am out there looking so why not pick them up. That is just more money in my pocket. I do take the cord off and also take the back off to look for treasure.

what about the electric motor? I like taking those apart.I take all the copper then the casing is sometimes cast alum. or the older ones cast iron.
Even if you don't take it apart you can get paid for electric motors.

Don't foreget the heating element they nichrome worth 2.00lbs at the yard I use. Pull the motor and check the windings sometimes it's aluminum. The front panel behined the nobbs is aluminum unless it's an old one. Always check for change, I found 22.00 in one. If broken down right should be worth 8-10$

My Yard pays $6.00 per dryer so I take the back off hit the motor out cut the #2 ins out. And then if its a gas I pull the brass fiting off. Then I take off all the others metals so I can to make the dryer as light as I can. Screw the back on and your good to go!
God is great, scrap is good, and people are crazy

Its better to be scrapping and thinking of God than sitting in church thinking of scrapping

So if it weighs 100 lbs you are getting .06 a pound for it, 150 lbs and it's .04 a pound...

I opened up my 1st one last week and was surprised to find $1.40. Now after reading this thread I'll be opening them all.
