I put them with electric motors. Get around $0.08/lb for them while shred was 0.03-0.04/lb

I have only found Aluminium wound motors on clothes driers & heatpump compressors.
One type of real old wringer washing machine had the Ali windings too, weird.
Microwaves from the last ten years are mostly Aluminium wound, 20 years sometimes Ali, & sometimes with one Ali & one Copper winding.
If its out of a 'Convection' or dual use microwave/oven, then Ali windings again.

I leave alum motors in washers and dryers. The yard guys can tell they are alum by the style of the motors cause they are pretty much all the same. Now if it was a alum motor from a water pump, box fan, ect, i can get away with selling those as copper motors.
The only brands of appliances that have copper wound motors are maytag and some old kenmore's

my yard pays the same for copper wound or alum wound electric motors. they dont ever check any of them. I dont mess with taking the copper ones apart unless they are really large and worth the time/effort to me of cutting them open. So 99% of the the time all my copper and alum motors (and transformers) all go in the same bin, and go for the same price

it really depends on how much time u have on your hands,and badly u need money,,AL wire goes f .26 a #, while steel is now .02,, so if u have the time, do the AL motor last,,

You can not take aluminum motors apart by hand fast enough to make it worth your time in America. I have taken apart hundreds of them when they were mixed in with the copper ones I did. You could make more money cleaning the toilets at McDonald's than you can taking apart aluminum motors. There generally is not even a pound of aluminum in the windings. so right now you could get like lets say 5-8 cents a pound for aluminum wound motors as is. the steel makes up the majority of the weight so lets say a 20 pound motor will get you $1 by not touching it. take it apart the steel is now worth 2 cents a pound so you get 39 cents for that and a half pound of aluminum at 26 cents a pound will get you 13 cents. 39 plus 13 equals 52 cents. so really you just made your motor worth less by taking it apart and spent 5-30 minutes or more messing with it.
Now some yards will check motors others will not. so depending on where you go aluminum motors can sell with the copper ones. other places they go in their own separate pile. others just want them in the iron pile so the hammer mills can separate the aluminum or someone can throw it in with the meatballs. Depending on where you go just throw it where they want it at.
