- Can these aluminum beverage cans be recycled?

Hi everyone, I need some expert feedback. I see a fair number of resealable aluminum beverage cans that integrate a large hunk of plastic on the top. The amount of plastic under the lid (inside) is actually more than what is seen on top. How should these be sorted in the recycling stream? Trash?

LOL ... okay ... i'll bite.
I deal with thousands of aluminum cans a week and have never seen anything like that.
The heft of our beverage containers are plastic with plastic screw on caps. Glass runs a tight second with aluminum this time of year because the summer people love their fancy arse wines.
If i had to speculate ... i don't think that a plastic contaminated aluminum can would be very welcome in the recycling community. It would contaminate and otherwise fairly pure product that draws the best money per pound.
This probably won't play well with the granolas either.
Tomra would probably code them out cause they don't want their aluminum product contaminated. That will piss off the customer at their RVM's.
The other thing is that it's not very sanitary. When you put your lips up to a plastic or glass container that's been capped ... you know it's clean. Aluminum cans .... nah .... that top isn't protected from dirt & germs. The plastic parts would be impossible to wipe clean before you pop the top and take a swig.
Anyway ... you know what they say about opinions. Everybody's got one.
Just looks like some silly sales gimmick to me. I wouldn't invest my life savings on the hope that it would fly with the consumers on a long term basis.

If it has a deposit stamp on it sure it could go with the cans. If no deposit then i think ot would have to go in with dirty aluminium.

Assuming you're talking about the newer style of small aluminum bottles with the screw-on caps that have the plastic on the inside of the lid. For best scrap price the can/bottle part can go with the rest of your aluminum cans. The top part with mid-grade aluminum breakage. Both are recyclable without major difficulty if you have a scrapyard near you.

Can you take a pliers and just pop that piece off the can?

So the lid slides open and shut. Kinda cool. Plastic looks like ABS though lol. I assume it's not. I am no plastic expert.

Oooooooooh those! Only seen those once and totally forgot about them. If you don't live in a bottle deposit state then you've got a minor aggravation on your hands lol. You can absolutely still recycle them at any scrapyard but you might end up with dirty aluminum or old sheet price instead of can price. A little less scrap money but totally recyclable still. Or if you've got 1000 cans and just a few are with the plastic tabs then just bleed them in with the rest. We'd buy them that way.

Take a hatchet and hit the side of the can near the top. It should slice the top of the can right off.

They could be good to take camping or fishing to keep the bees out of your beverage.

When I get the Guinness Draught in a can with the plastic ball widget I just cut a whole in the can and remove the plastic ball thing. I am sure I could leave it in...
