    A Copper Question

I have found and seemed to have acquired a considerable amount of copper wiring, also some from what my bro-in-law an electrician was throwing out. I know that a lot of people steal copper (mine came by legally). I also have never turned in copper yet. Do I need proof of purchase or is it pretty much they do not care?

It all depends on the yard. You'll need to call some local yards and get pricing and see what they require. One yard I go to will pay me cash for #1 copper, another mails a check and I get it 4 or 5 days later and another holds it for 5 days and then pays me cash when I go back.

Forgot to include that all the yards above require a thumb print and a drivers license.

What is a 'Considerable" amount? It's a term that means a lot of things to a lot of people. My considerable is 50lbs cause I scrap as a hobby. Other guys do 100s of pounds. Go talk to your Scrap yard guys. Treat them well and get in their system. Here in NJ (communist NJ) you only need your Driver's License on file. Cameras are everywhere so its no big deal. If you are worried about a big load on your first run break it down into little loads and take 15lbs or so your first time and get the process down.

Shop around for prices of copper. Yards do very in price.

Just dont go bragging about how much easy money it is to rip copper pipe out of houses to the scale guys. Yes ive seen this happen. Worker didnt put the pipe in the copper container, he put it to the side. Then the guy was complaining at the payout window he didnt get cash.... As he walked back to his car, not on the yards property, but he parked in the street outside the yard. Dont be that guy
